Publishing a Map to the Steam Workshop

To publish the currently loaded map to the Steam Workshop, navigate to the file dropdown and select the “Publish to Steam” button.

Selecting the “Publish to Steam” button opens a window for configuring the map for the Steam Workshop.  Here the name, description, and visibility of the map on the Steam Workshop can be edited.

To finalize publishing the map, select the “Publish” button. If the map is already associated with a map on the Steam Workshop, this button will instead be labeled “Update”, and clicking it will update the existing map file on the Steam Workshop.

Once a map file is published, you can find it in your Steam Workshop items on Steam.

Keep in mind that publishing and/or updating a map on the Steam Workshop does not save the file locally.  Use the typical Save and Save As functionality for saving a map file locally.

Downloading a Map from the Steam Workshop

To download, or subscribe to, a map file on the Steam Workshop, simply click the subscribe button on the map’s workshop page.  Downloaded map files are automatically moved to the Battle Map Studio map folder, even if Battle Map Studio is running.  That way, map files can be quickly and easily downloaded and edited.

Keep in mind that whenever a map file is downloaded, if there is an existing map file in the local maps folder with the same name, the existing map file will be overwritten. It’s recommended that if you want to edit a map file found on the Steam Workshop, it’s best to save the map locally with a new name.
